I arrived in Paris in 1987, looking rather like Tom
Cruise and ready to discover a whole new world.
Like many things in one's 20s, reality didn't always
correspond to ideals, but in the end, ma réalité m'a
pardonné. A list of influential French-language
songs with links to their web-based videos.

My third Playlist in the My Planet series, an eclectic
mix of songs from around the world. The assembly
of this particular playlist was made easier by the
2007 Eurovision song contest, which provided
much of the material. Links to the web-based
videos of many of the songs.

Everyone has his own way to handle grief. I find
refuge in music, as I do with joy and hope and
sadness and despair. For Mother's Day 2007 I put
18 songs on a disc, songs that made me think of my
mother and our 42-year relationship. Songs of
encouragement, of forgiveness, of strength, of
thanks, of love, of recognition. Songs about my
mother and me.

A surprise gift from Japan in early 2006 knocked
my socks off and pushed me into finishing this
compilation (see track 13). An edgier, more
nocturnal sequel to the My Planet disc of 2004.
More and quirkier music from Europe, with a
pronounced increase of influence from the Arab
world as well. Check out the links on the Tracklist
page. Welcome to My Planet. Enjoy your stay.

On an August night in 2005 we were partying with
our friend Antonio in a basement club on Avenue A
in the Lower East Side of New York City. The music
was all mine - the great songs I danced to as a
student in Paris in 1985. After a while it hit me that
most of the other people there were about as old
as the songs themselves! A great night out and a
revival for many of my dance mix vinyls.

Urban sounds of Hip-Hop, Electronica, and Dance
tracks from some of the best and most unusual
DJs of Paris, London, Berlin, Johannesburg, Beirut,
Memphis, Los Angeles and Tokyo. An aggressive
sound that perfectly fits my state of mind during
January budget time! Love it if you dare.
Welcome to My Planet - you're soaking in it.
