new in July
Pictures from our busy
lives, including Leo, the
latest addition to our
family.
Lots of old favourites make it to my iPod.
Some of them are so old that they are
increasingly hard to find, even as iTunes
downloads or on .mp3 sites. Several
Prince protegées and other music from
the 80's.
A new playlist, comprised of French-language songs
heard during my last 20 years in Europe. Musical,
poetic and often surprising. Links to youtube and
other sites animate the music page like never before.
The latest major addition to my collection: the George Vancouver map of 1798. After
spending three summers charting the coasts of what are now California, Oregon,
Washington, British Columbia, Alaska and Hawaii, George Vancouver returned to
England to publish his voyage. Although combined with knowledge gathered by the
Spanish, Russians and Americans, Vancouver literally put the Pacific Northwest on
the map, and created many of the place names we now take for granted.
Bellingham, New Georgia, or Gastonia, California del Norte?

Fun family walks along the beaches and in the
forests of the Pacific Northwest, and a nice trip to
Seattle for sushi and Northwest Coast art.
Our annual family trip to the French wine region
closest to home. Fill up the boot with Louis Casters
and Bollinger to get us through the Fall and Winter.
A new playlist of songs from around the world, each
with an edgy urban feel of hip-hop, electronica or
dance music. Some are weird, some are naughty,
but all reflect the character of some of my favourite
cities on My Planet.
Sunday walks through Tokyo in late Autumn. Golden
light, crisp air and a carpet of golden leaves recently
fallen from the ginko trees.
Our annual family reunion in California. Good food,
fun times, but not the same without Mom.
Boston, Provincetown, Ogunquit and lobstah lobstah
lobstah. A fun visit with Bill & Ginny with Dad,
followed by a summer lobster feeding frenzy in
Ogunquit and Kennebunkport, Maine.
A whole new section on reay.be!
This month focuses on Obamarama, the
effects that the 2008 presidential primary
is having on American popular culture.
And on Yours Truly.
