Celebrating cousin Dave's birthday at Dali in Cambridge.   Aug 14
Later, we took off just the two of us for a week "down east" in Maine.  The scenic Cape Neddick lighthouse, low tide in beautiful Kennebunkport and at the Bush family compound recently visited by Putin and Sarkozy.  Our favourite lobster pound at Cape Porpoise (excellent seafood, cheap champagne) and our lovely guest house overlooking the village of Ogunquit.  Good sights, theatre ("The King and I" with Lorenzo Lamas), lobster every day and sand in our shoes.  Summer!
Aug 19-25
Making way for ducklings and harbour cruising in Boston.  Yes, there was some culture between meals: Vincent and the amazing glass flowers in Harvard museums, and Japan's first impression of North Americans (Commodore Perry) at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem.
Aug 14 & 18
Dress was even more casual on Cape Cod at Provincetown's summer carnival.

Back home, Bart and Vé host a fun and eclectic and international 40th  birthday party near Bruges
Sep 1
Regine and Achim marry in Germany, with a fun reception the next day.
Sep 9
Thomas enjoys his third birthday. Yet another European in American clothes (GAP kids, not Brooks Brothers), thanks to the record low dollar.
Sep 16
We spend a fun weekend hosting Sara, playing in the park and lunch at Kasbah.
Sep 22-23
Ah, indian summer in Belgium.  People sip beer as we visit the flower market on the Grand'Place in Brussels. The next day we dropped off Sara in Brugge, and browsed through an enormous flea market.  I found a nice art deco frame and (incredibly) a small Haida indian totem.
Sep 23
The sakura trees outside my office turn to flame.  That evening at a company party we all get our fingers sticky as we take a group course in the art of (Belgian) chocolate making.
Oct 4
The beer flows to silly oompah music as 10 of us join a Tyrolian-themed dinner party north of Brussels.
Oct 6
Much more chic brunch with the Lucs, outside in the October sunshine.
