Champagne 2007
In 2006 we decided to made a family trip to stock up on wine. Fortunately for us, the closest major wine
region to Brussels is Champagne. This year again we filled the boot of the car with cases full of our annual
supply. We spent the night in Reims, but as usual tasted and purchased at Louis Casters in Dammery,
popular among Dutch-speaking Belgians since the lady of the house is from Limburg.

We stop along the way in Laon, a beautiful hilltop cathedral town in. The Reims skyline is dominated by the cathedral.
Vinyards owned by Veuve Clicquot, grapes in the vinyard of Bollinger. A nice view down towards the Marne River and the village of Dammery.
Scenic cathedral and historic buildings in Reims. A much more modern setting at the Best Western.
In the village of Dammery is the House of Louis Casters, good and economic Champagne that is very popular with Dutch-speaking Belgians.
Group portrait near Bollinger. We took the slow road home, stopping in the beautiful but cool and misty Belgian Ardennes on the way back to Brussels.
Sunflowers from my garden, providing nice bursts of colour in mid summer.
